An AI photo app can fix light, straighten walls, clear clutter and stage empty rooms. It can't fly a drone, shoot a real twilight, capture a 3D tour or film a walkthrough. That's what AI can't replace, so those jobs still need a photographer. They're expensive add-ons: drone costs $125 to $295 and twilight $150 to $295 on the October 2026 pricing pages we checked.
We checked the photographers' pricing pages and FAA guidance linked below on October 24, 2026. Real Estate Camera is our app. Weigh my view of it with that in mind.
What an app does and doesn't do
An AI app covers the interior work: fixing dark rooms and color, straightening walls, removing clutter and staging empty rooms with a label. A photographer is still needed for real twilight at $150 to $295, drone at $125 to $295, 3D tours at $99 to $300 and video from about $150, on the pages we checked October 24, 2026.
| Job | AI app | Photographer |
|---|---|---|
| Fix dark rooms and color | Yes | Yes |
| Straighten walls | Yes | Yes |
| Remove clutter or furniture | Yes | Usually through an editor |
| Stage empty rooms | Yes, labeled | Add-on, about $40 a room at Off The Deck |
| Real twilight | No | $150 to $295 |
| Drone | No | $125 to $295 |
| 3D tour | No | $99 to $300 |
| Video | No | About $150 and up |
Twilight
A real twilight shot is taken at dusk with every light on. AI "virtual twilight" paints a sky onto a daytime photo. Real Estate Camera doesn't swap skies. A fake sky shows buyers something that wasn't there, and California's AB 723 requires disclosure of altered photos. More in twilight real estate photos.
Drone
The FAA's commercial operator page says drones under 55 pounds flown for work must follow Part 107. That includes passing a knowledge test for a Remote Pilot Certificate. Photographers who sell aerials, including Estate Photos L.A. and House of Pix, say their pilots hold that license.
3D tours and video
Matterport and Zillow 3D tours require their own capture process. A phone photo app can't make either. Virtuance lists the tours from $99 and $114 in Atlanta, respectively; Estate Photos L.A. charges $300 for homes up to 2,000 square feet. If a builder wants a tour, book a photographer.
What's left for the app
Interior photos make up most of a listing. Shoot them on a phone, then use Enhance in Real Estate Camera for 1 credit per photo, about $0.33 to $0.50. Declutter handles messy rooms and Stage handles empty ones, at 2 credits each. Book a photographer only for the jobs above.

Questions
Can AI make a twilight photo?
Some tools offer virtual twilight, which paints a dusk sky and lit windows onto a daytime shot. That changes what buyers see, so it needs a disclosure in many places. Real Estate Camera doesn't do it. A real twilight shoot costs about $150 to $295 in the pages we checked.
Can I fly a drone for my own listing?
Flying for work counts as commercial use. The FAA says you need to follow Part 107 rules, which include passing a knowledge test for a Remote Pilot Certificate.
Can a phone app make a 3D tour?
Not Real Estate Camera. Matterport and Zillow 3D tours need their own capture process. Virtuance lists them from $99 and $114 in Atlanta.
What can an AI app do for listing photos?
Fix exposure and color, straighten walls, remove clutter and furniture, and stage empty rooms. Real Estate Camera does these for 1 to 4 credits a photo.
Should I still hire a photographer?
For luxury homes, big lots, views or anything that needs aerials or dusk, yes. For an ordinary condo or starter home, a phone and an editing app often cover it.
